DESCRIPTION:Abstract \n\n\n\nColor coated steel is prone to coating degradation and metal corrosion in environments with humidity\, presence of salts or other pollutions\, and abundance of UV light. Traditional techniques for coating durability evaluation resort largely to standardized testing (gloss\, colour retention\, blister counts etc.)\, but provide very little information on coating degradation mechanisms. \n\n\n\nIon beam milling has during the past years become the state of the art in cross-section preparation of delicate samples. Combined with SEM imaging and modern high-resolution EDS element mapping\, root cause determination for coating degradation has taken tremendous leaps in the past years.
